Another 15 minutes of fame

Diary

Wagner Design & Construction (a.k.a. Teague) took part in this year’s Canastota Business Expo on Saturday. It was our first time participating, so we weren’t sure what to expect. It turned out to be a great day - we met all sorts of local business owners and neighbors, ate some free food, and practiced giving the WD&C sales pitch. That last part leaves a lot to be desired - we both find it hard to “sell” our business, since it feels too much like bragging. Teague’s parents are much better at it than I am, so with their help we made a decent splash.

It felt like getting ready for a 7th grade science fair; we made a presentation board and spent all week pulling together materials for our table. I had alot of fun. The marketer in me gets jazzed about stuff like that. I nearly pissed myself when I saw the plethora of Wagner logos staring back at me from our table the day of the show. Logo on the board, logo on the cards, logo on the flyers, logo on the mailing list sign-up, logo on our nametags….. if nothing else, I have WD&C very well branded.

To generate some buzz, we raffled off a $25 Lowes Gift Card - because who couldn’t use that? So if you know Jim Barrett of Canastota, let him know he’s the lucky recipient, and it’ll be in the mail today!

We were interviewed on a local radio station the day of the show, and today we showed up in a little local papar called the Oneida Daily Dispatch - which makes newspaper article #2 for us. The first one, a front-pager in the Syracuse Post-Standard, was about this blog.

The Dispatch article was about the Expo, and says:

New to the expo this year was the husband-wife team of Teague and Mindy Wagner, owners of Wagner Design and Construction. The couple explained that, since they are new to the area, the expo was a great way to highlight the services they offer. “We specialize in residential remodeling and construction,” said Teague. “Historic restorations in general- that’s our passion,” added Mindy. In addition to construction and renovation, some of the other services that the Wagner’s offer include stone and tile work, space planning, interior design, and deck building.

The list of services came from the flyer I sent the writer away with. My quote doesn’t make total sense in the context, but I have a tendency to ramble when I’m nervous. The poor woman did what she could to make me sound like less of a babbling idiot, I am sure.

You can read the entire article here.

I definitely have to thank my friend Katherine, who told us we should take part. If it weren’t for her we never would have known about it!

As someone who is in the process of expanding my own business, good luck. I hope you get some work out of it.

We love to hear from you, dear readers.
