Shiny white cupboards

Annex/Kitchen

The kitchen updates have been an ongoing, slow-moving process. Christmas preparations pretty much stalled our progress, but now that things have died down I have a renewed energy for fixes.

So, our cupboard doors are FINALLY back on the hinges. They’ve been leaning up along the walls for about a month now, and staring at my cluttered cupboard contents was really starting to annoy me. Last night, in a fit of fixer-upper madness, I screwed all of the hinges onto the doors before realizing I’d screwed them on BACKWARDS. So had to unscrew them, flip them over, and try it again. The second time was much more successful, and the hanging went fairly smoothly. However, there are no handles (we bought porcelain knobs at Home Depot the other day, but need to drill new holes to install them) – we’re working on that.

I also found black curtain rods for my homemade valance and cafe curtain the other night, so that’s up as well:

We’re going with a black/white/green color scheme. That top valance took up WAY more fabric than I imagined, and was a huge pain to put together. But it looks ok now that it’s up, so all is forgiven.

I like the curtains!
What ar you going to do with your old retro doorknobs? Mine are starting to grow on me, as scary as that sounds. They remind me of my Fiestaware.
Are you off for holiday break? I go back Monday, but the students won’t be back until the end of January. I miss being *IN* college :)

Lookin’ good! Our kitchen reno has stalled in the figuring-out-what-the-heck-to-do-with-these-hinges phase.

Thanks guys – we got the porcelain knobs on this weekend, and I’m pretty sure we’re JUNKING the ugly latches that were there previously. I have them in a tupperware in the basement right now though, the frugal girl in me finds it hard to throw perfectly useful things away.

Kristin – hope the hinge situation gets easier. I looked at the fancy ones and realized it’d be a whole different (HUGE) project if I wanted to go with different shaped hinges, so ditched that idea for the plain ones. But in white, so they’re not as noticeable as the old brass ones.

With our homemade cabinets, everything is turning into a huge project. Even the ugly old hinges had to be finagled to fit. We bought a pretty one to test out, but ugh. It didn’t work.

We painted our cabinets white the weekend before Christmas. The doors are STILL sitting in the spare bedroom. You’ve inspired me to nag my husband today!
BTW, I love your color scheme.
