The long-awaited photo slideshow

Second Floor Basics

I know, you’re all just DYING to see the plethora of quick fixes we’ve been pushing through before Cody moves in upstairs (in less than a week!).

I apologize for taking so long to post these, but we’ve been crazy busy these last few weeks. You know, holidays and all. But now, for your viewing pleasure, I give you a Flash slideshow of our upstairs apartment progress:

It should be noted that we did some things to our walls/floors/ceilings that I NEVER thought I would do. Things that fixer-uppers will shudder at. In the name of fast and cheap, we commited some house sins which we’ll probably pay for later. But……. it couldn’t get any worse. And it had to get better. And there was A LOT of ground to cover up there. So I don’t feel too guilty about, errm, slapping paint over wallpaper and only partially sanding patched walls. Really, I’m fine with it. I swear.

Looks good! Much improved and definitely livable. Probably the nicest place Code has ever lived! :)Kidding. Hope the move goes well…

I can’t believe you did all of that in a week! The place is looking great! The view from the hallway into the bathroom looks so different, for the better, of course! And I love the cute little toilet paper holder…so sweet! Great job!

Yes, we were all about “making do” with things we had around the house. The toilet paper roll was one I’d picked up at the Salvation Army months ago – spray painted it white, and voila! Good as new.

The bathroom wallpaper was $1/roll from Menards, and the linoleum was the cheapest we could find. New lighting fixtures were ones we had received months ago as wedding gifts (and boy, are they purdy). Paint was our friend for EVERYTHING!

It shows what a little time and creativity can do!

Hey Mindy,
For some reason, I can’t see #16 on the slideshow…

It looks like another case of matching tastes: We just installed nearly the same vanity light as you:

(Only they are installed upside-down from each other.) Funny that we keep doing this, in our very different houses!

Wow–definitely much improved!

Incredible difference. I like the wallpaper in the bathroom and I can’t believe how much better the tub looks.

In order to inhabit our downstairs for the winter we had to do a quickie on the bathroom. It looks very ugly but it’s clean and everything works and should carry us through winter. Sometimes quick fixes are absolutely necessary in order to get you to the next place.

Guys! I’m looking at this slideshow in envy! I have a 1938 “fixer-upper” in Baltimore City and I would love to have completed so many projects in one week. I have years of wall paper on seemingly every wall in the house. Congrats on the progress!

We love to hear from you, dear readers.
