How I got the weekend off…

Diary

Yes, despite having a giant hole for a bathroom, I’ve been hunkered down on the couch all weekend. How’d I pull a get-out-of-work-free pass this weekend? I had 4 wisdom teeth out early Friday morning. And let me tell you, I would much rather be working on the house.

The general anesthesia was great – I don’t remember a thing, except for some silly snail joke they told me in the recovery room. I felt absolutely wonderful until that and the novacaine wore off around noon. The rest of the day was, without a doubt, the most miserable of my life. Also the most disgusting, since I had a mouth full of blood and doctor’s orders not to spit anything out. They gave me plenty of pain medication, but I can’t stomach it…. learned that the hard way. Throwing up with stitches in your mouth? Not fun, or pretty. So I’ve been toughing it out without so much as an asprin, because somehow even that made me sick.
As you can imagine, I’m a big ball of fun right now. I look like I’m hiding a baseball in my left cheek, and I haven’t bothered to change my clothes in two days. I’ve been busy napping and watching Scrubs reruns. I’m bored beyond belief, and wishing I was healthy enough to at least throw some insulation up on the walls. It’s killing me, being so useless!

My mission today is to find a traditional looking wall mount faucet online for a decent price. If Kristin gives it a thumbs up, I know I’m on the right track! Home Depot and Lowes don’t stock them in the store, and even if they did I probably wouldn’t buy them after our kitchen faucet fiasco. Overstock.com has some possibilities, and I’ll probably check out Ebay as well. I’ll be sure to share our options with you before buying – I’m not exactly with it today, so who knows what I might end up with!

Oh, that totally sucks- when I had mine out, after the novacaine wore off, I remember crying uncontrollably until the pain meds started to work. I can’t imagine handling all of that unmedicated. My only suggestion is packs of frozen peas on your cheeks- numbness may be a welcome side effect.

Go drink a bottle of booze. It won’t get rid of the pain but you’ll sure feel good about it!

Hey Mindy,
My post-wisdom-teeth-removal-advice is to drink a very large chocolate milkshake. No matter what anyone says about chocolate or milk or something that cold, there is nothing better than making your disghusting mouth taste like pure heaven. And I lived to tell about it, so it couldn’t have been all that bad ;)

Haha – ok, that’s the second alcohol suggestion I’ve had this weekend, and the first came from a nurse. I’m thinking that bottle of wine in the fridge would make a good nightcap ;)

I dove into some chocolate ice cream this morning for breakfast when my appetite started to return, so I’m doing the milkshake one better!

Sorry to hear about the wisdom teeth. Your experience sounds almost exactly like mine. I didn’t eat for three days and was in constant pain. I made having a cyst cut out of my neck feel like a party. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Oh my, I feel your pain, and you have no idea. I had my 3 wisdom teeth out this past August and had a very similar reaction to the swallowing of the blood and the vicodine. I had local anesthesia along with demerol and nitrous, so I remember EVERYTHING. After about 6 hours of swallowing blood I started throwing up, and it continued every 15-20 minutes for 10 hours through the night, then I ended up in the hospital for 36 hours from dehydration. So I got to watch real life scrubs…

As I said, I feel your pain, and wish you a speedy recovery. I had them out August 11, and still have food getting caught in the holes that were left. Take care.

We love to hear from you, dear readers.
