And, after our trip to Ikea to bring home 8-ft long countertops, I had to concede that he was right. This is Teague’s new baby, replacing the minivan whose days were surely numbered – when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, it lurched so awkwardly the tires squealed nearly every time. NICE! I gotta give […]

We’re only a few days away from the new year, so it’s natural to reflect on our successes and failures. Of which we’ve all had many… personal, professional, and of course house-related. So, in the spirit of new-years-listmaking, I give you our top-tens! Fixer-Upper’s WORST surprises of 2005 10. Each time you fix a radiator, […]
Yesterday we moved in Fixer-Upper’s newest tenant, my younger brother Cody. For those of you who knew us back in the day, rest assured there will be no over-the-head wedgie attacks, spit torture, or flying furniture. We’re WAY more grown up than that now. At least we pretend to be. Like most siblings, my brother […]
in which we dress the dogs in costumes and humiliate them so thoroughly, they stop peeing in the house for two whole days. Bruiser is NOT A FAN of costumes, as you can tell… Nero is just upset because velvet makes him look fat.
So it seems that many of us have dreamt about finding and exploring new closets, rooms, or entire sections of our house. I myself have a reoccuring dream in which I find about 3 new rooms I was previously unaware of. In the dream I am always very excited about my find, and amazed that […]
I had a great dream last night. In it, I found a closet in our house that we had somehow forgotten about. I was happier than a kid at Christmas! I think it’s pretty funny that I’m so house obsessed, I fantasize about more closet space instead of, say, Jake Gyllenhaal….
… it’s another. At least with this house it is. I made a depressing discovery last night. One of the tiles in the upstairs hallway’s ugly drop-ceiling was sagging in a funny way, so I hopped up to tap it back into place. As soon as my fingers hit the tile, it tumbled out of […]
Teague made out like a bandit this year. Even though most of his presents were work-related and not very “fun”, I think he’s a happy camper. Because, sadly, things like new ladders have become fun to us. We’re such grown-ups. Further proof – for Christmas, we’re DYING to get ourselves a dishwasher. DYING, I tell […]
Today, this handsome guy turns 25 – so if you see him, wish him a Happy Birthday! (In other news, since our blog was part of my gift to him last year, Fixer-Upper has turned 1!)
The problem: We’re paying out the nose to heat twice as much house as we need. We bought a big house (~2,200 sq. ft.) because we know we want a family someday, and we don’t want to have to skip from house to house as our family grows. There was some strategy to the decision. […]
